In April 2015 the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM) were altered by the Health & Safety Executive and CDM 2015 was introduced and CDM 2007 was completely revoked. One of the changes included in the legislation was to introduce a role of “Principal Designer” and another abolished the role of CDM Co-ordinator.
The Health & Safety Executive introduced many other changes in the new legislation not least of which is to make a domestic project fully subject to the Regulations. Many people remain unaware of these changes, but the Health & Safety Executive takes the view that anyone undertaking a construction project should know what their duties are. This is fine for Clients who are regularly commissioning construction work as they will have teams and advisors around them who should be aware of the Regulations. However, Clients occasionally procuring construction work and householders employing contractors are very unlikely to have any idea of their legal obligations.
If you have any sort of construction project coming up, even if it is just for repairs and maintenance, you are a duty holder under the CDM Regulations and need to comply. For advice and a free initial consultation please contact John before you appoint any contractors or designers.
